Accessible heart health for every community
Trace Heart is building accessible, evidence-based tools to improve cardiovascular risk awareness, early response, and equitable heart health support.
The Current State
Heart disease is the world’s leading cause of death. Globally, cardiovascular deaths increased from 13.1 million in 1990 to 19.2 million in 2023.1 In the United States, cardiovascular disease remains the primary cause of death, and was responsible for approximately 919,032 deaths in 2023.2
Where we are and where we can be
Advances in healthcare and public health interventions have improved heart attack survival among older adults. However, significant challenges still remain, especially in risk identification, response time, and equitable access.5
Current screening tools can fail to identify true individual risk before a major cardiac event. A study found that 45% of heart attack patients were classified as low or borderline risk shortly before their attack.6
The time between symptom onset and seeking treatment significantly influences health outcomes, yet many people wait over 2 hours before calling 911.7
Digital health technologies are widely available, but underserved populations often lack access because of cost, awareness, and cultural barriers.8
